Sheyla Alvarado is from the state of Sonora in Mexico. She studied Gastronomy at the Autonomous University of Baja California, and did intership at Cosme Restaurant in New York, Sud777 in Mexico City, and Mirazur on the French Riviera.

At a very young age she became part of the second generation of chefs on the Baja California scene. Under her leadership, Lunario's menu has evolved since its opening to become one of the most innovative and avant-garde cuisine concepts in the region.

Alvarado has earned great respect among the press, colleagues, and customers thanks to her honest commitment to the local comunity. Her cooking has been mentioned by the American Culinary Institute, Condé Nast, and The New York Times.

Lunario enters Latin America's 50 Best list in 2023 and in 2024 it was recognized as the Most Sustainable Restaurant in Latin America by the same list. Awarded a Green Star by the Michelin Guide in 2024 and 2025, and her first Michelin Star in 2025.
