Olivier Krug

DIRECTOR
HOUSE OF KRUG

Olivier Krug, the eldest of Henri Krug’s five children, grew up literally next door to the Krug cellars, and some of his earliest memories are of the sounds and smells filling the courtyard at champagne-making time. Given free rein to go his own way, Olivier Krug studied business and economics in Paris and Reims, and it was only when, in 1989, he was about to accept his first job, that his father offered him the opportunity to represent the sixth generation of the Krug family at the heart of the business.

His first assignment involved more than two years in Japan, where Krug was virtually unknown. Rapidly adapting to the language and culture, he set about establishing its reputation via one-to-one interviews with leading retailers and sommeliers, journalists and connoisseurs. In more recent years, Japan has become one of Krug’s largest markets. He went on to take up a variety of positions within the company; gaining experience whilst serving as a full member of the wine team and working alongside his father to perfect the Krug art of tasting and blending.

Today, as a director within the House of Krug, Olivier is a part of a dynamic, atypical team of talents. Within this team, Olivier represents the collective memory of six generations of Krug. He cements close relationships with growers and takes part to the Krug tasting committee that upholds and brings forward the unique style of Krug wines. With passion and energy, Olivier carries the wine message of the House of Krug to the four corners of the world.

In his spare time, Olivier Krug is an avid gardener, relishing the suspense of laying out in winter a garden that will only be seen in its full glory months later – a little like the challenge of recreating the legendary Krug style year after year.
