Tara Monsod, Executive Chef of ANIMAE and Le Coq in San Diego, brings over a decade of kitchen experience, a lifetime of passion, and a unique culinary perspective shaped by her Filipino-American heritage. In the summer of 2021, Monsod stepped into her role at ANIMAE, quickly earning a devoted following and accolades for her innovative reinterpretation of the restaurant's culinary roots, infused with flavors from her Filipino background. Her dedication to her craft and the nurturing, positive environment she has cultivated for her team earned her the honor of being named San Diego's first-ever James Beard Foundation Best Chef California Finalist in April 2024 and again in 2025.

Following her success at ANIMAE, Monsod opened Le Coq in La Jolla, a new French steakhouse inspired by the vibrant modern Parisian culinary scene. Chef Tara reimagines classic dishes with her signature style, blending cross-cultural influences and ingredients to create a distinctly Southern California expression of French cuisine. Her menu features bright, hyper-seasonal products that reflect San Diego's spirit, while subtle nods to her Southeast Asian roots are seamlessly woven throughout.
