KATO
Jon is a first-generation Taiwanese American who grew up in Walnut, California. His love for cooking began at a young age, inspired by watching his family in the kitchen. In 2016, he opened Kato, which has since earned wide acclaim and numerous accolades, including Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef, James Beard Award Finalist for Rising Star, Forbes 30 Under 30, and one Michelin star. Kato has been named the #1 restaurant by the Los Angeles Times in 2019, 2023, and 2024. In May 2024, Kato received the Resy One To Watch Award from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, marking the first time in over a decade that the organization has recognized a Los Angeles restaurant. Most recently, in 2025, Kato debuted at #25 on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
